Over the past three years Jeremy and I have worked hard under the Design in Public umbrella to combine the efforts of Seattle’s diverse creative community into events and installations in public spaces. This ranged from things like street furniture that asks you to interact with it to full-on street installations that encourage you to climb higher for a different view. In an effort to engage with a broader base of individuals on a year-round basis we decided to start the Seattle chapter of the Design Nerds. The original Design Nerds chapter was founded in Vancouver, BC to facilitate positive social, environmental and urban transformation. In the Design Nerds Society we found an organization that sought out potential positive uses or transformations of unused space in their city, a group that goes out of it’s way to engage design and designers with the general public in fun and exciting ways. Our hope is that the Seattle chapter will give local designers from all fields an opportunity to collaborate while making positive transformations to our urban surroundings. We've lined up a few projects to kick off the chapter and later this year we'll begins hosting events called Nerd Jams where YOU can pitch your idea and we'll all work together to make it happen. Join us in making Seattle a [little] more awesome.
